Most of us enjoy a nice day out at the seaside but our colleagues Jack and Ben chose to make their coastal visit considerably more challenging. Parking up then searching for the nearest fish and chip shop? Nah, too easy….This determined duo set off from London early in the morning and relied upon pedal power to get them all the way to Brighton seafront. They didn’t just do this for the lols or the likes. They joined thousands of other riders, all cycling to raise vital funds for the British Heart Foundation.
On Sunday 15th June, our two intrepid cyclists pulled on their lycra, downed an isotonic drink and set off on a fifty-four mile cycle. The arduous route took them all the way from central London to the South coast. This gigantic effort was in support of a good cause and one that resonates with many of us, The British Heart Foundation. The BHF is the UK’s leading heart charity and plays a crucial role in raising funds to combat heart disease and cardiac conditions. Their fundraising and education initiatives have been instrumental in saving many lives from what is one of the UK’s leading causes of death. A worthy cause indeed.
No such thing as an easy ride…
This was absolutely not an easy challenge. Many miles were conquered, huge hills were tackled, sweat poured under a relentless sun, legs screamed in pain…but our tenacious two peddled on. Crossing the finish line in the early evening Jack and Ben finished the day exhausted but happy. We’ve seen the final pictures and can’t believe they are both still smiling at the end!
“As the big day approached, I can’t deny I was feeling a bit nervous.” Ben said. “The weather was a bit warmer than I’d have liked and a more favourable tailwind would have been helpful but at least it didn’t rain. It was a really enjoyable day for a very worthy cause!”
Jack says; “It was definitely a tough challenge. It was a really great day and it’s fantastic to be raising money for the British Heart Foundation. We’re incredibly grateful to everyone who has donated.”
