While we may hanker after tropical climes, white sand and palm trees far away, there are equally beautiful places in the UK within much easier reach. Read on to find out the team’s favourite places to stay.
And, when the weather is just right there is indeed fine, white (and even pink) sand and turquoise seas to enjoy.
We asked the team for a few favourite holiday places closer to home and what makes them so special. If you are looking for a fresh escape or a new place to explore, we hope our selection below might tickle your travel taste buds!
Torridon, Western Highlands – “Because the mountains there are nice and big and pointy”
Lyme Regis on the Jurassic Coast – “For childhood memories, searching for fossils. There is always something to explore: the shops, the rock pools, the gorgeous surrounding countryside and famous film settings too – The French Lieutenant’s Woman and Persuasion. The perfect place for kids in the summer holidays or a quiet weekend away from the city.
Isle of Skye Fairy Pools – “ Simply stunning scenery. Heavenly swimming in these crystal clear, natural pools at the bottom of the majestic Black Cuillins. A perfect escape.”
Cornwall – “Particularly Newquay, for its beaches, the harbour – and the shopping too!”
Plockton, Western Highlands – “A gentle lochside village in a stunning setting with everything you need for a holiday – clear blue water, pinky-white sand, fabulous fish & chips and two perfect pubs.”

West Bay – “I always feel happiest when I am by the sea. Going ‘home’ even if just for a weekend and having a dip literally washes my worries away and makes me feel reconnected with the people I love most”
